WordPress has become extremely popular in the low-end web development market with the popularity of blogging. This is likely due to the fact that it is free of charge, simple to install for non-technical users, and allows nearly anyone with minimal expertise to be in the "web development business."

But...
How valid of a web platform is WordPress and how does it compare to a full-blown web application like Portfolio? In part, that depends on what you want to do on the web. If you simply need to publish information, images, videos, and so on, with limited interaction, then WordPress is a decent solution. After all, it's intended purpose is to be a blog - and it does a great job of it!

However, if your current or future needs involve e-commerce, a customer help-desk, document management, intranet functionality, or any sort of complex, custom process automation, like many free software solutions, WordPress will quickly leave you out in the cold.

How Slanted Is This?
If it looks like we simply selected everything that Portfolio does and WordPress doesn't, we really didn't. Out of the myriad of possible features, we tried to show only the most relevant to typical users. In fact, we left off a great many features Portfolio offers that WordPress doesn't and even included what we consider to be a relatively useless feature - a Macro Language - simply to give WordPress one feature that Portfolio doesn't have!
